Disney channeled into ‘Affair’

Print princess Anthea Disney has been appointed to the new position of managing editor at WNYW/Ch. 5's "A Current Affair," a decision that has upset some staffers at the show. The dissenters are believed to be irked by the fact that their new boss has no television experience, but Disney, one-time editor-in-chief of Self Magazine and a former editor at the Sunday Daily News, remains confident.

"A print background is not a stigma here," said Disney, who was recruited by Fox Broadcasting chief Rupert Murdoch. "A good story is a good story."

Improving the ratings for "Affair" will be the first priority for Disney. Last Thursday "Affair" managed a 5.3 rating (representing the percentage of all 7 million TV households locally) and a 9 share (the percentage of all sets in use at the time that were tuned to the show) against figures of 6.8/12, for its rival show, "Inside Edition" of WNBC/Ch.4.

While Disney acknowledges that fixing the troubled program is her mandate, she says she needs time to assess the program's weaknesses. "I'm still learning where the ladies room is," she said.
